I don’t understand why people give bad reviews to things they clearly haven’t bought or understand. This unit is made to prevent video from playing unless the e-brake is on! Yes, there are ways to circumvent it, but it is still absurd to give it a bad review based on the people that “might” be using it illegally around you.I just got this in the mail after a lightning deal for $175. I uploaded some pictures, but should have it installed by the weekend and will update this review once I have been able to experience it for a while and give you some true insight to the product.Edit: I got it installed after I got my wire harness in. Very painless and easy to install. The unit itself… it’s not so great. There are so many areas that I can certainly tell this thing may just not live up to continuous use. Here’s my Pro/Con list:Pro:1. Cheap. Got it on a lightning deal for $175. You can’t beat that anywhere on a new unit.2. Lots of inputs and outputs. See my pictures for a reference.3. Easy to install. It actually has it’s own wiring harness so I was able to solder that harness to another harness I ordered to go from stock wiring to after market. You could EASILY use wire caps though.4. Decent picture. All things considered, it is a pretty clear picture. The only issue you will have is viewing dark movies in daylight. At night, this thing is crystal clear.5. Expandable. SD Card. USB. DVD/CD. Although having the USB dongle is a little annoying, it’s not a huge deal.Cons:1. Interface. UGH! Let me tell you now, if you are not a patient person, this unit is probably not for you. It takes a solid 20-25 seconds for the unit to power on, load, search the SD card, and then resume play from a previous song. Swapping between modes is actually painfully slow. The interface itself is not intuitive and makes it very difficult to select songs (ESPECIALLY while driving) since you have to be very accurate with it. It does come with a stylus, but come on, nobody is gonna pick it up to change songs! You get used to it, but it could certainly be better.2. Touch screen can act funny almost as if it is not calibrated, but it does have a calibration. You click on “Stop” and it will fast forward even though it is two buttons away. Could be my unit, not sure.3. Options. First off, the settings for this thing are all over the place. You have to study the manual (which is in HORRIBLE Engrish) to get around to what you need. I do have a subwoofer, but one feature I miss from my old stock unit was the ability to adjust the bass easily. You can adjust the volume, fade (front/back, side/side), and treble, but not the bass! You have to back out of the song and go into the settings to adjust it, then make you way back out to play the song.4.Lag. There are some videos (and songs a couple of times) that lag during certain parts. For instance, I loaded up several Futurama episodes on the SD card. The intro on ALL of them lag. The majority of the rest play well except for those 3Dish scenes when I can tell the unit just can’t handle them. This happens sometimes with my brothers $600 unit as well, but it is still an annoyance. May try to load them from a faster (Class 10) SD card or a DVD to see if that is at fault.Do I regret the purchase? Not yet. It is not a solid unit by any means, but I wasn’t anticipating much either. It sure made my parents (technically challenged) drop their jaw, but me (technically capable) can see many flaws. I probably wouldn’t buy it again and just invest the extra $100 or so to get a better model. If you are real patient and don’t mind some goofy settings, you could probably benefit.Overall, I give it 3 stars, but to make up for the horrible review below me, I will leave it at 5 stars to give it an overall 3 rating.
